01 · The Challenge

A foundation pad with a hard weight budget.

The pad would have needed civil upgrade work to carry the original cal-sil + Pyrocrete® system.

  • Foundation-pad weight limit. No headroom to add traditional insulation + PFP weight.
  • Required reduction of installed weight. 78.2-ft × 126-in still — a major vessel.
  • Thermal performance and PFP could not be compromised. Substitution had to be functionally equivalent.

02 · The Solution

Pyrogel® XTE + XTF replaced cal-sil + Pyrocrete®.

Combined into a single lighter package: 30 mm XTE on the vessel, 60 mm XTF on the skirt and head.

  • 30 mm XTE on the vessel. Equivalent thermal performance to the cal-sil spec.
  • 60 mm XTF on the skirt and head. Equivalent PFP performance to the Pyrocrete® spec.
  • Foundation-pad upgrade avoided. Civil works eliminated from the scope.
  • 4 insulators, 8-hour shifts. Crew completed installation pre-TAR with a small team.
  • 10 days ahead of schedule. Full insulation completed early.

03 · The Outcome

Civil work avoided. Schedule beaten by 10 days.

The lighter Pyrogel® package eliminated the planned foundation-pad upgrade — and the speed of installation closed out the full insulation scope 10 days ahead of plan, with only four insulators working 8-hour shifts.
